Start off watching this - youtu.be/UZSygp_CpVsExplains the basics of an LO206 engine. Same block but the internals are very different. Cam, Ignition, Carb. Two very different monsters. The world formula is much faster. If you buy a brand new World Formula it comes with a Clutch, Header, Starter. It's a spec class and those components have to be used. It's very fast out of the box but most drivers will pay and get it Blue Printed to be competitive with race leaders. It has a rev limiter at 7150 rpms. I'm not sure the exact rules on the lo206, but you can use almost any Shoe Clutch, the muffler and header are also spec, but it's the same most use in the clone class. The important part of this motor is the bottom end is completely tagged/sealed motor so no internals of the motor can be messed with. This should attract people who aren't motor heads and also will discourage cheaters. It's like an economy model of the world formula. The Rev Limiter is at 6100 RPMS. I prefer the World Formula but if money is an the lo206 is an option. I like that you can take either package to any track or Gold Cup and the rules are the same. You can't go wrong with either in my personal opinion. Also since the block is the same if you ever want to get into an Animal or World Formula you can use the block for spare parts or build a whole new motor with the LO206 block.

Thank you for all this generous information. It sounds like there are a lot of good options for someone in my position.

Rob is there a rule on a shoe clutch? I'm not super well versed on the lo206 rules.

Another question...
Just out of curiosity, which 2 cycle engine would be the easiest/cheapest to maintain for sport driving, without any real emphasis on being competitive?
thanks!

The kt100 is a good little engine, simple 2-stroke, although I'm not a fan of the clutches.
The rotax is a good package although can be expensive, but occasionally you can find a good deal.
I am a proponent of the PRD Fireball. Pretty inexpensive, fast, fun to drive.
That's my two cents...
