Pipe vs. Can Sr. SuperSportsman

It sounds like we still need to all agree on what exhaust we're gonna run this year. Some people are wanting to go back to the can, I don't. I think this a step backwards. The new pipe, the HPV3 or RLV3 ,looks like a good setup to me. From what I've read, the whole west coast is going to this pipe, which is one reason to do so also. We'll be on the same page as everyone else, & maybe more yamaha guys will come race with us. There are pictures of it on ekartingnews 2cycle forum- page 6 of the thread. It has one more hole both inside & out on the can portion, more volume in all the chambers & should be much better than our SSQ pipe, less restrictive! Should be easier tuning & quicker lap times. I've already ordered one, I want to go to a few Gold Cups this year & am hoping there will be a class. I think all of us in Sr. SuperSportsman should vote on this and get it resolved before the season starts. Thank you- Steve

keep in mind, this hpv3 pipe will most likely change again next year or the year after. also the whole new pipe thing was what skyrocketed the costs of karting. also to remember is the different flex length for the rlv3 pipe and hpv3 making it harder to tech. where as the 4 hole the club has the insert tool and its easy to tech. the tuning aspect, maybe it is easier maybe not, usually when something new comes out a select few have an advantage the rest of the people will complain its hard to tune. example mojo d1 was very hard to tune to start with, some people figured it out, most not, so they changed to the d2. the tuning of the 4 hole everybody can do pretty easy, and finally cost being a factor where the pipe is double the price of the can. just some things to think about. i dont really care either way, but i thought 4 hole would be easier for everyone and as a club, if people want to run ikf buy the pipe, but making it hard to compete with out having it at a club level may not be fair

So I think that us yamaha guys should get together and talk about the pipe/can rule change, the sooner the better maybe on a sunday? and have a board member their to mediate.

We would like to hear some more input on the pipe vs. can topic from our Yamaha racers out there. What do you want? What do you think?

My personal opinoin is that we as a club should follow IKF and Region 6 especially since they are making an effort to revive the Yamaha classes which may lead to the resurection of a Yamaha Gold Cup class and could lead to more "out of towners" coming to our track. But at the same time we need to think of our local Yamaha racers who support TCKC and have made this our largest class.

From what I've read on ekartingnews the new pipe is supposed to be easier to tune and alot less restrictive but I have not seen any actual test data other than dyno sheets posted on that forum. From the little bit of pricing research I've done I have found that a new 4 hole can is $79 and the HPV 3 pipe is $139.95 at Comet Kart Sales. I have not been able to find a price on the RLV version yet but it is supposed to be priced reasonably.

A meeting and vote of our Yamaha racers is a great idea but we need to have as many of you attend as possible to get an accurate conclusion. It should also happen as soon as possible since the 1st practice weekend is only 8 weeks away. A Sunday would probably be the best day to have it. If anybody has an idea for a time and place please post it on here or let a board member know so we can get the info out there. There is currently alot of work going on out at the track so that might be a good option for a meeting place since the board members will be out there.

OK call me a smart **** but did we not just get together on a Sunday to discuss this. I guess i'm still grumpy about missing football.

If the Yamaha class would like to get together and discus this further, that would be great. The Boards original thought on this rule was to follow the IKF decision and try to bring this class back to the top of the kart count in the Region. I know that there has been an issue with pipes for quite some time and the "pipe of the week" club was a major detriment to the class throughout the karting community. I also know that a lot of the 2 cycle importers and engine suppliers have tried to swing everyone in a direction of other engine packages that are proving to fragment the classes and cost quite a bit more money to maintain. The understanding the IKF is using with the HPV/RLV pipe is that it will be here for the long run to keep karting as affordable as possible and to use engines that are sitting on shelves all over the US.

With that said, there are several of the Board members that will be available this Sunday Jan. 17th and next Sunday Jan. 24th out at the track. If you all would like to get together and have a civilized discussion and make a decision we would be happy to work with all of you.

Clayton.......If memory serves me correct, we did make a change to the Sr. Rotax class after the rules meeting last year. So adjustments can be made to better the competition and to help make everyones racing experience better. EOR.

A meeting/discussion at the track sounds good to me. I wonder how many of the Yamaha people are reading this message board & are aware of this? It would be good if we could mail out a brief letter explaining what's happening, & when the meeting is. I could help with this, if I had an address list.The 24th or the 31st would probably give everybody enough time. Just an idea, what do you guys think?

We would like all of the Yamaha Sr. drivers to come out to the track on Sunday Jan. 24th to discuss this question. We will be out there working from 9 to 3 so if all could be there by 11:00 am we could all have a good discussion and get the rules set for 2010 and beyond.

Will there be yamahas running in the Gold Cup this year at the first TCKC event on March 26, 27, 28? I can put one together if so, I have a tuned pipe, also a can for senior or formula Y setup. I need to know in advance which one to setup. Do you know what the weight would be? I 'd hate to drive all the way down to an empty grid. To me I liked any pipe for yamaha. It was fun in any configuration. But each configuration needs proper planning for.

I think there will be a few at the spring Gold Cup in Tri Cities. The pipe that is IKF legal now is either the HPV 3 or the RLV 3. The only difference between the two is the flex length.

RLV 3? Is this the RLV L3 Tuned Pipe configuration with the clutch setup then?

The Sr. Super sportsman pipe is the RLV3 part # 7403 or the HPV 3 pipe with a clutch. No direct drive.
