Just a reminder: In 2011 full width rear bumpers will be mandatory in ALL classes. They can be steel or plastic (Rotax plastic only) and u can build your own (subject to tech approval). So plan ahead, there will be no grace period. We do not want to tell somebody that they cannot race because of an unapproved rear bumper.

Are there any requirements for the bumpers posted somewhere? What size tubing needs to be used? How wide and how tall do the bumpers need to be? Thanks for the help.

The rule is... Starting Jan. 1, 2011 all karts must be equipped with a rear bumper to protect the driver and kart from rear impact and to keep the following kart from reaching the rear tires. The bumper may be either CIK style plastic "rear wheel protection" or steel tube of a double bar design.
The bumper shall extend to at least the center of the rear tires. The ends of the bumper shall not extend beyond the outside of the rear tires except in a declared rain race.
David and I have been building them for the last year. Ours fit cadet and full size karts and are easy to install or we can install them for you.

The stock full width rear bumper that came with my Road Rat is 51" The chassis is WKA and AKRA approved. I run my tires at about 50". Does this mean I have to shorten my stock bumper?

They cannot extend beyond the width of the rear tires, so they need to be shortened.

Here is a rear bumper that i made for one of my karts. I will be making more for a couple of my other karts. There will be a few subtle changes, but nothing big. Also may be looking into chroming for a factory look. If interested, let me know. Attachments:
