If I could find one at a reasonable price, I would like to have a shifter kart, even at my age I'm sure I could handle it. I'm wondering, could a person use a shifter kart in another class, say WF or Clone further down the road if he wanted to? That being said, I don't see much for sale in this part of the State, but there is a 2003 SKM for sale in Olympia that appears to be in good condition/clean, but the body panels seem different that what I've seen around the internet. seattle.craigslist.org/oly/for/3934403810.htmlDoes it look like it would be legal here? Is a "stock" CR125/38mm carb competitive or are you all modified beyond that? I've researched SKM and find it's a lower end kart from the makers of Italkart and a few others I believe. Anybody ever owned or driven one? I don't know what to look out for. Thanks!

As far as I know, Larry, I'm the only one running a modified shifter engine here. And as near as I can tell, the one in the ad is a stock engine and it may have been used for road racing, which would explain the more aero looking side plastics. It's got the full length rear bumper, so with a few little adjustments you could be racing it on our track easily.

What adjustments? I wasn't aware there was a modified 125 shifter class, most in the club are stock 125's? Curious how many of those you all have.
I assume if I found shifter didn't suit me, I could remove the gear and make it a WF or Clone, the chassis' are the same or suitable for that?

Last club race we had 14 shifters and all run at the same time. And because of the added power, there is a 25# weight penalty for modified engines. You'd be better off if you found a stock set-up. I assume if I found shifter didn't suit me, I could remove the gear and make it a WF or Clone, the chassis' are the same or suitable for that? Ricky Worley just converted a shifter chassis to run at this weeks IKF 4 Cycle Grand Nationals. I'm convinced that Ricky can be competitive in anything that has 4 wheels, but I would recommend buying a 4 cycle specific chassis if you run WF or Clone.

A modded 125 can be so many different combinations. Mine is modded but isn't that extreme. Ported and an o ringed head. Obviously you want to tinker, hopefully you understand that is very limited in karting bc there has to be limits so classes are competitive unlike drag racing where money doesn't play a big role in club stuff. Most tinkering here will be in the chassis at the track.
As for going down its possible depending on the chassis. The mounting location has to allow for chain placement.
