i got my motor put back together and i cannot get it to fire or sputter. i am thinking fuel but i dont know where to start. i have spark. i pulled the hose from pump to carb and pulled the cord a few times, barely got any fuel on the paper towel. i taped off the baffel b/c that is what i had handy with the plans to plug is better later today but the kart should still start, shouldnt it? can the bowl on the carb be installed incorrectly? if so how should it be? yes, it is turned to ON, fuel is open, and choke is closed. i hold it at WOT when i pull.

Make sure the gas is on and then there should be 2 lines on gas tank one for the fuel and the other a vent. Blow into the vent until the gas fills the carb just watch it go through the lines and blow with you mouth not an air hose. Any more help let me know. These engines wont start unless the choke is on and have your hand on the throttle until you can adjust the idle.

so i need to push the fuel through the pump first? makes sense with what i found b/c i pulled the bowl off and there was no fuel in it at all. im going to try that and if it doesnt work i will head out to the track to look around. thanks, this is a learning experiance. im used to cars with an electric fuel pump.

Have you changed your main jet? You should have at least a .036-.038" jet with that setup. Even if you got it started, the original size jet would only allow it to sputter before it died. Also, screw the idle adjustment needle in all the way and then back it out 1 1/2 turns or so.

so i got it started, installed the float pin incorrectly. got it all together. it just runs rough. if i get it started and it dies, it takes a while for me to get it started again. is this common of fresh motors? i am going to fill the breather hole today and see if it helps. if not i believe that means i have to much fuel and thus my jet is too big? i drilled a .039 jet.

You dont need to fill the breather hole, just put some tubbing in the hole and run the tubbing somewhere towards the bottom of the kart or into an old plastic pop bottle zip-tied to the kart would be best. As far as your running issue, have you looked at how you installed the billet adapter for your air cleaner. It can go two ways but one way cover up the air holes for the carb? It should run real smooth for a new motor and a .039 jet is fine. If you can not figure it out, I will be at the track Sat morning and you can bring it to the track and I will help you get it going then you can get some practice in and be ready for the Pumpkin race.

(i did cut the oil sensor wire) i did find somehting to fill the hole on the valve cover which i think helped. atleast it startes better. if you dont mind i will probably park next to you for the weekend if you are willing to help me out. just dont laugh at me when i show up with it in the back of my mustang... ;D do all fuel lines need to have a clamp on them? i believe that is the only thing i have about passing tech.

Well at least it wont be in the back of a Pinto ;D ;D. For the fuel lines you just need to zip-tie all of them, very quick and easy.

im struggling to keep it running. tonight i had it up in the air and got it started and held the throttle above idle (idle = all the way in minus 1.5 turns) and it just died on me. i tried to gas it and it didnt do much at all. the full line is full of fuel before the pump.
any ideas?

As far as the hole in the side of the valve cover u need to unplug it.. It will help create a better pulse and help the pump get the fuel to the card. Back off the throttle screw and use Ur hand to give it throttle with the choke all the way on when it starts slowly remove the choke and give it gas with Ur hand the motor should run smoothly without being wound up..
