What do you other clone drivers think about the starting grid shuffle? I don't know if I like it or not.
If we are going to continue to do it I don't think we should use two dice. Dice rolls are not random.
Two Dice Probabilities: 2 or 12 2.78%; 3 or 11 5.56%; 4 or 10 8.33%; 5 or 9 11.11%; 6 or 8 13.89% and 7 16.67%.
You are much more likely to roll a 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9. With only six rows of non-Xhead drivers you will almost always invert the whole grid which promotes sandbagging. I suggest using either 1 die or cards. Start with one card for each row of non-Xhead drivers, then draw one card. That would make it totally random. No reason to sandbag.

I totaly agree and was going to propose something similar. I ran the same calculations after the last race. Additionally the probability of rolling a number combination greater than or equal to 6 (basically a full invert) is 72.22%. Greater than or equal to 4 is 91.67%. I am not opposed to the invert but I would also like to see something that is a lot more random and not so biased to a full field invert. Both of the options Eric noted above would produce an equally random result and I would be in favor of. Attachments:

The inverted races were fun but like many I thought we could make it better. I would like to throw out a suggestion of only inverting the heat race and not the main.

At least in the Main you get 15 laps to work it out. But if you didn't invert the Main that would give you 25 laps (counting the Heat and the Main).

Since I missed the last race, Iam just curious, Whats the reason behind the invert? Why is it needed?

I don’t know that it is needed….but the intention was to give different drivers a chance to start on the pole and make it interesting by the faster drivers working up through the pack. The issue is that it turns out to be a full invert most of the time. My concern (along with others it seems) is the potential for sandbagging and other efforts to avoid starting in the back of the main. Not to mention the additional contact and possible wrecks/damaged karts that will be caused by the differential in speed and driver talent. With the field we have it is virtually impossible for someone to drive from the rear of the field to win the race, especially if you have any fast guys that have trouble in the heat and start up front. I think this makes the race more like playing a game of craps than it does actually racing (just my opinion). Again, I am not completely opposed to some kind of invert but I think we need to get away from consistently inverting the entire field in both the heat and main.

I'm curious to see what other board members and racers think?

i tend to agree with reducing the chance of flipping the entire field but it still needs to be possible. the deck of cards idea would work but i would like to see the deck skewed to increase the chance of flipping most of the field. example with 7 rows: 2,3,4,4,5,5,6,6,7,7 let me say it was awesome being on the pole at the last race but putting the slow fat man up front with that many ppl was difficult when i was off the pace by 1.5 seconds. dont get me wrong, i will do it all over again if it happens and enjoy every minute of it. proof that the idea works though was the main event b/c i started 2nd and by the end of the race i was in the back but that should all change this coming race

i would say pea pick. where u draw a number from a hat that corrisponds with your position. possibly give points for main and heat to even it out.

I like the idea of just inverting the heat and not the main. The main is where you get your season points. If your getting stuck in the back during the main because of the invert, then the championship points don't mean much.

Anyone willing to let me drive their clone and start last in the main at the next race? Lets see how hard it is to make it through the field.

It was a fun, one time experiment if you ask me.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings any if the dice experiment slipped away into obscurity...
