anyone willing to explain the measurements for how to advance my timing by modifying my key? i got a few different numbers on Sunday. I'm just trying to catch up...

Easiest way is to buy an advance key from a kart shop.

The offset keys come in 4 degree or 8 degree flavors, or you can just file off a regular key if you don't want to pay the $7.50 for an offset. I think it was .006" for each degree. So if you file off .048" it would be an 8 degree home made key.
