1st post here gentlemen. Having a couple of kids has left me out of the auto-x scene for several years as it's not much of a family sport. I'm trying to fix that. Our local club here in Bellingham, WA has 2 "departments", auto-x and a enduro type timed rally events(on road). I'm proposing to add a 3rd based on the clone kart rules. Not having much pavement to deal with, we already have several parking lots we use for auto-x that are rather small for Solo-2, but would be more ideal for karts. I could really use some info regarding the safety regulations(course design and gear) set forth by your insurance, and general construction rules for the kart frames...overall dimension limits, materials, suspension(if any), etc etc. We'd like to emulate your rules in most part, so that with minor changes we could "play" in each others backyard if so inclined. Several members will be wanting to build their own frames, I don't know the legality of this. I've found enough information regarding the engines and tires/wheels that we'll be good to go there. The club is very interested and I'd be stoked to be able to get my wife and daughter out there with me, can't do that in auto-x. I'm thinking at this point, a 3.5HP class for kids and a 6.5HP class for adults utilizing the same frames and tires. To start with, we'd be looking at "sealed engines" in a box stock form, exhaust and air filter excluded. Would be enforced via a special paint on the fasteners and inspection-repaint if a part was replaced or removed for service or repair..also noted in the log book. Feel free to shoot holes in my proposal, that's what I'm looking for.

Ok found the burris series PDF's posted, section 4 chassis rules for the sprint road course karts are truncated on the last page with "more to follow in 2011" Are the same chassis build rules applicable besides the "offset/oval" part, for the speedway sprint and champ cars, i.e. section 4.3 thru 4.4.10?

The presentation went well, had several people that were at the meeting interested, and within an hour of the proposal going out in the clubs e-mailer we got 9 more members that were "in". Our current insurance also carries coverage for these type of events so we have them working on a quote and safety requirement package for us. I also discovered that the Sima kart track in Sumas, WA is a mere 10 minutes from my house and I didn't know about it until the meeting...it went in last year The membership is very steep however($500-$800 a year to run your own Kart) so most of the people interested want to pursue doing our own thing but we may talk to Sima and see if we could hold an event or two on their track. Our per event cost for auto-x runs about $300, I expect the kart coverage to be similar or maybe even less, so a 30 person event would only run us about $10-$15 for entry in theory. Anyway it's looking good, thank you Corey for the informational phone chat:)

Boy I thought the insurance would be the hard part.... The club got it's auto-x(and woud have been kart site) leased out from underneath it for this year so the whole club has no venue:( At this point we are talking to the local dirt track speedway about kicking in money to pave their parking lot along with a long term lease for both auto-x and karting events on this lot, but this year is toast. I did buy the 15 visit membership from SIMA and attended the first winter race. While the practice membership was pricey, the races are fairly priced, $60 if you sign up online and that comes with free practice on friday and they also give away VP fuel, tires, mariners tickets, etc etc, and SIMA swag. Despite the CRAPPY weather(rain, snow, thunderstorms) we had 30+ racers including 4 clones for the 1st winter race. With it being just above freezing I was wearing about 3 layers of clothing over my driving suit and was the porker of the bunch, crossing the scales at 436#'s. The other 3 racers were all skinny's weighing in at 274, 308, and 310, so needless to say a light and heavy class are in our future. I did stay on the lead lap and managed to pull 3rd by keeping it on the track in the rain. I talked to the owner about doing a lower cost clubman series, but a good chunk of the operating costs is due to the location requiring a staffed ambulance on site for races and they can't move on the price. Do you guys escape this EMT requirement at your track?

Do you guys escape this EMT requirement at your track? volunteer EMT's, i believe... one of the EMT's does this just to keep his certificate. he has a desk job otherwise. one of the board members can give more details im sure. i work with the guy and that is what he told me at least.
