The board is starting to plan for race awards and looking for some feedback. How do all the JR2 & senior drivers like the plaques with finishing position we have done in the past? Would anyone like to see something different? We have kicked around the idea of not giving out the plaques during the season to save the $ for something better to give out for year end awards.... Any ideas and input would be considered.
Hope to see everyone this weekend for 1st PRACTICE!! ;D Thanks, Dustin

I could do without the season long plaques. Three years of racing and I have yet to save any of those. I think they're fine for the kids and juniors, though.
On the other hand, the end of the year awards were great last year!

Yeah, I as well could do without the plaques. Maybe a nicer kill sticker?

So maybe do without the plaque during the year and just hand out the little metal finishing position plate to stick on your tool box or something along with a cool kill sticker???
What about the year end plaques we have done? Maybe without the cost of 2 plaques we could offer a better year end award for all the guys that had raced enough to qualify for season points.
Just kicking around ideas with the racers.....

I have been a club member for 16 years, and have experienced all sorts of different ways the club has given out trophies. My favorite has been plaques with a substantial trophy at the year end. A good sized cup trophy or glass trophy/bowl were always cool. Something that stands out from the normal club/gold cup trophy are my favorites. Over the years we received coffee mugs, desk clocks, helmet bags, jackets, trophies, and plaques. FYI: I always thought a calendar of champions would be pretty neat to hand out with year end trophies too.
As for club races, I have something like 7 years worth of plaques that I intend to hang up in my future garage someday. I think they are neat because your results for that year are summed up on one plaque, next to all my other plaques for a career summary.
For like 5 years we did kill stickers + trophies, like Gold Cup, but the trophies ended up in a box or donated back to the club. I ended up putting the kill stickers in a football card album page and pinning them on my wall. Basically I made my own plaque.
If we go with kill stickers only for race winners, what would 2nd-5th receive? Giving out trophies for 2nd-5th doesn't save money compared to plaques. Giving out only kill stickers to winners isn't really fair to those who finish 2nd-5th and want something to show for it. Giving out stickers for 1st-5th isn't all that different from plates for plaques. Also, the stickers get ruined by brake clean while cleaning karts if you put them on your kart.
I like that you guys are polling the members for their input; however, there will always be a debate on this topic. I typically do not run enough races to qualify for a year end trophy, but I felt it was important to share what has been previously done by the club.

Thanks for the info Brett. You make some good points, that's some stuff that is good to know. I sure hope you can make enough races this year to qualify for year end awards and join us at the banquet!

Here's a site that's got some different ideas. I was even thinking instead of a plaque maybe a trophy which the small plates can run up the vertical post. Would have to be a flat rectangular post, but an idea. www.race-rewards.com/plaques%20hardboard.htm

I really like the idea for the calendar of champions idea. That would be really cool. "As for club races, I have something like 7 years worth of plaques that I intend to hang up in my future garage someday. I think they are neat because your results for that year are summed up on one plaque, next to all my other plaques for a career summary." This sums it up. I'm not only speaking for myself, but my teammates also like them. Just keep in mind the older racers who aren't setting track records or winning races but just enjoy it for the pure sport of racing. I know Randy really likes his plaques even if they are 11th place clone finishes. His plaques are hung up in his house along with some pictures. I kind of wish the kids got plaques too. I have no idea what to do with the 16 trophies Spencer has? But I understand the spirit behind it and the kids love them.
