STRAIT RACING ENGINES (SRE) of the tri-cities is available again by request for KT100 reconditioning and or blueprinting. All engines are broke in and ready to race. I offer TOP END or COMPLETE rebuilds with extra options for case parallel and main bearing pocket alignment. I specialize in helping new karters get started so they can avoid mistakes that can cost money. SRE engines are primarily set up for the club racer in mind for reliability and have been used by club champions. However,a few engines were built for Gold cup racers and have won events.

Here is some food for thought.
Keep in mind, all you new karters out there, that the engine is only 1/3 of the formula that makes you go fast! Having a good chassis that is set correctly is one, but experience is most important! Anyone who says you will win with a certain motor alone is giving you false hope. I would like to point out another misconception that people tend to believe and some motor builders won't admit. THERE ARE NO EQUAL OR IDENTICAL ENGINES! Aluminum castings and machining from the manufacturer are not all identical. Simple irregularities can make or not make an engine breath better, (KT100 yamaha "old" barrels for example). I have also seen stock engines that the measurements are way off base on what the factory was supposed to set them at. Thats why some engines seem outrageously priced because the builder found a engine that has measurements that allow it to breath better. In addition, for engine set up, there are three classes of engines "stock", "legal" and "Illegal". Let me explain, I assume you already know what stock and Illegal means but people don't quite get what " Legal " means. Every race engine has a set of standards in a rule book it has to be at. Go over those standards and you deem the motor illegal. An Eng. builder will set those standards(or measurements) as close as possible without going past(blueprinting). Going too close can be risky because #1 over time the motor wears or have build up causing it to be illegal (I have seen this before when I was a Eng. post tech at IKF/ gold cup events. Combustion chamber CC volume too small because the Eng. builder did not allow for carbon build up). #2 Eng failure. Now heres the part most people don't want to hear. It IS THE DISCRETION of THE BUILDER HOW CLOSE HE WANTS TO PUSH THE MOTOR TO THE LIMIT. Lets say the rule is "min .005in and stock is .015in. The builder knows acceptable and reliable performance is at .010in.and he will set all engines from customers there. NOW...His buddy who runs the same class wants a little more out of his Eng. willing to risk a DQ finish and has the money to have the extra time put into it and repair it if it blows up so he will set the measurement at .006in.(still legal). ALL classes, engines are the same if legal. Even "sealed" engines, yet...not the same. Sometimes, especially racers who build their own Eng., will build them for only one race day and hope it will stay together. This still doesn't mean a guaranteed win.(see first paragraph) Before you start eyeballing your engine builder and asking "what are doing or not doing for me".I assure you, 90% of engine builders have your best interest in mind and want you to succeed. I know this because I have checked many many engines from many builders at post tech from 1st to 5th place and i will tell you the measurements are similar. Most DQ's are not deliberate. Usually caused by forgetting to check something in the blue printing process or engine gaskets settled over time, even piston wear. So there you have it. Please support your local kart shop and try to remmember...winning is great! but having fun is what's important. SRE
