Hey everyone. Hope you all had a great holiday. I've been a little out of the loop, and was curious what the 2009 tire situation is. Will there be a club-wide vote, or has there already been a decision made? My only input is have a tire with good consistency and not a drastic drop off after the first few heat cycles. It would be nice to save some money, and be competitive with 2-3 race old tires if possible.
Thanks! Brett

I asked Corey at the awards this year if there was going to be a vote on tires and his reply was "no, we're running Burris again."

Almost every year I've been involved with kart racing, the club members have voted on the tires the club required for all classes. This vote has occurred as late as the January rules meeting. My question is this: when are as a club going to vote on club tires, or did I miss it. I know for a fact that as early as last October I raised the question to a couple of board members, as have other club members. If there is not a vote this year, what is the reason. I would caution the board that when board members are distributing tires and the club members are not allowed to vote on the them, it raises questions as to independence and motivation. This is all the more reason for the club members to vote on the tires, especially when ther is a long history of voting on the issue. As far as our opinion on tires, we would rate the tires as follows: Bridgestone, Dunlap, abd Burris in a distant third. The cost of running Burris' over the past couple of years has far exceeded an other manufacturer's by a long shot. Financially, we would be better paying more for Bridgestones, with the extra going into a prize fund, than we would be supporting the Burris program. Early on in our racing we did not purchase tires because the tear off's from Gold Cup still have a couple 2 or 3 weekends in them. Our new racers and those who are racing on their last dollar do not have this opportunity, which just creates one more barrier tor incoming members. We have 6 kart setups for this season and I'm not sure if we can afford to race club with any of them if we cannot run our Gold Cup tear-offs. If the club would brand the tires, club members would be forced to buy the tires from the club at the higher price. This creates even more revenue for the banquet. If it is to late to vote, the club members should be allowed to run whichever tires they chose at the beginning of the season (may the best tire win, or that might stick the distributer with unwanted tires). Let's look at what has been ordered and when current inventories have run out, use the tire that the club members vote for. Be sure to voice your opinion to the board as to whether or not we should vote. Give them a call, respond to this thresd, or join me at home this summer on Sunday. You cannot complain if you don't step up.

Awesome points rick... I am in the same boat as you... I would much rather run tear-offs from gold cup... I cant afford to keep up with new tires, along with all the other expenses of racing 2 karts... I think a club-wide vote would be fair, and if burris prevails, its end of story, but at least that way there would be no controversy within the club.

We're in the same boat. Last year about killed us on tires. I'm pretty sure we will be running Bridgestone even at club races. It would be nice if the Region we race in were unified in their tires. Lisa Moon
