hello everyone! My name is John Strait and I am currently available for engine rebuilds and blueprinting. My cell # is 727-0569 for any info or questions. Please leave a mesage because i'm not always with the phone, I will call back. If any other questions concerning my experiance or background, ask around or call the TCKC boardmembers. I encourage you to read KT 100 Yamaha on the general board dated 2008. Which brings me to my next topic. It's been awhile since the yamaha has been a major part in kart racing at TCKC. (i don't know why, It's the best bang for the buck) I attended the last race for a short time and I have heard the word "POST TECH" ringing about. To set the record straight, again read KT100 YAMAHA, there is alot more to going fast than the motor and it seems that some of you get it. The only time I would be concerned about legality if MOST of the racers are Gold cup racers not weekend warrors having fun. However, I do believe if the class is getting big with more entries there should be a few post techs. Now before any of you get bent out of shape let me explain, I have teched many years at gold cup and national events so i'm quite familar whats going on. When i was racing club, we teched at least twice a season on the club level. This is what I recomend if anyone is really wanting to make sure the field is fair. With all the newbys out there I recomend having a courtesy post tech, which means If anything is found out of spec, they are warned and given chance the fix the problem before the next race. (THIS IS ONLY BETWEEN THE TECH PERSON AND THE RACER). Only the top 2 or 4 apply depending on entries, other racers can volunteer their motors if they are unsure. The class itself must agree on this and select someone knowligable to perform this task. The next post tech insp would be random. And lastly....I really would only recomend doing this if the field is really close. For more info on tech procedures and rules and ,yda,yda... read the IKF book if you really like politics, other than that, just race and have fun!!! sre (Strait Racing Engines)

Thanks John, it was good to see you at the track Sunday! I miss running that class with my screaming fast Strait Engine... ;D ;D One point that hasn't been brought up in regards to the teching of the KT-100's is this... Many of the racers in the class have engines that have been passed around from racer to racer for many years, even a decade or longer... Most of us simply assume that when you buy an engine from someone, its completely legal, but it's not always the case... I would really hate to see someone doing really well and having a lot of fun running at the front of the pack to end up being DQ'd for something illegal that they had nothing to do with, and be branded a cheater forever... Thats a reputation that only takes once to acquire, but lasts a lifetime, whether you were completely oblivious or not... We have a great group of guys (and girls) in that class, and it would really suck for that to happen to someone... John- how hard would it be to look at a engine in somewhat depth and be able to determine if its legal or not? It might not be a bad idea for a lot of the racers in that class just to cover the basis, kind of preventitive maintenance in a way... Just an idea... might be cool for you to offer a quick run-through service for the yamaha guys to let them know the condition of their piston/ring/cylinder etc... (how far from needing a fresher-upper it is) and also just to make sure everything is legit, and they didnt end up with some crazy setup that someone put together for a pumpkin race, but ended up in someone else's hands as a week to week race motor... It would end up being good for everyone, you could make a few bucks, and get back into the circle with all the new guys, and the racers could get a good idea of what they really have under the "hood", and make sure they are 100% legal... What does everyone think? Brett

i think we should be doing the post tech at every race for the top 3. that is fair for everyone. i have raced at many clubs around the country and never have i seen no tech for the front runners. since we are going to be holding 4 cycle grand nationals and we would like to put on a good show, i think during the season we also need to demonstrate how well we can run a club. typically the year nationals is at a certain track that clubs entries go up tremendously. if we see that next year and we have national winning level talent at the track and no tech, i would think we should hear about it very soon. we tech weight for every session, so why not motors or whatever. weight at tckc isn't going to make the difference between winning and losing, roughly 10 lbs = 1 tenth of a second on a long track. i think john if you would be willing to run the post tech that would be great. one good idea i have seen at clubs for post tech is to have a post tech wheel, the winner of the race spins the wheel at the scales and whatever it lands on, that is the post tech item, that way nobody feels like, hey so and so is freiends with the post tech guy so we tech carbs, cuz the tech guy knows the winners carb is legal.
as for checking everyones engines and freshen up them, well thats a good idea, i know for sure mine is very tired.
can't wait to get back out to the track.
