I just saw this on Portlands message boards...
Attention all KT 100 drivers. The KT100 Super Sportsman class will run on Saturday July 4th during the PKA Gold Cup per Region 6 Coordinator Bill Hettick. The class will run the same format as the 4 cycle classes. Qualify, invert Qualify order for Prefinal and line up for the Final will be the result of the qualify and prefinal finish. Bill has checked the Schedule and the addition of the Class will work best if ran on Saturday. This will allow a proper time for the event to finish on Sunday for the out of town racers to get on the road at a decent time.
So Drivers please call your fellow KT 100 racers and get them to attend on Saturday for your race

[glow=red,2,300]Realizing that the timing to host a race is no less than moronic ,it is a real step in the right direction to breath life back into the YAMAHA class and potentially YAMAHA classes. If you can please make every effort to be there to have a strong showing of numbers and show the potential to rejuvenate the absolute cornerstone of 2 cycle karting. [/glow]

Wish I could be there. this is a bad weekend to hold a race and with the short notice, I am not sure there will be much to show there numbers wise. I would be attending if there was more notice, but I already made plans for the 4th. Hopefully we will be able to do that same for the next race in August, which in that case I will for sure attend.

The KT's at PKA are about 5-6 on a good weekend with a couple more in the works. The Choice of configuration is the 4 hole or Super Sportsman. I would suspect that if the KT racers want to run in Gold Cup for 2010 they would all have to agree to a common configuration so that there is a good number attending at more than just one race for the year.
While the pipe classes are cool and fun I would suspect that Canned classes would be a bit more economical to run and would less wear and tear on the clutches making it a bit more affordable to budget conscious racer to afford to travel to 3 or more Gold Cup races a year. Bring them out and run them get the numbers back and have some fun.

Well thats what I call bittersweet!! I'm super pumped there is hope for the yamaha class to come back to IKF. Especially considering it's THE biggest class at our club. But, it sucks it has to start on THIS weekend! Hopefully Bill and the IKF board doesnt base the class' future on the turnout of this weekend. With a little more notice, and a non-holiday weekend, I'm sure we can round up plenty of troops for a weekend at a different track running our mosquito foggers ;D
We're stoked, thanks for sliding that in there Bill! Hopefully we can get this ball rolling and make it happen for 2010.
Hopefully we can all get the chance to get on the same page and unify all of the NW's club's rules for the class for 2010. ONE weight, ONE tire compund, ONE pipe, LOTS of karts. ;D

I think we need to set a few things straight here. The reason that we are running the KT's this weekend is that PKA and PARC are running them as part of the OSKCS. The Gold Cup Races at both MAC and PARC are OSKCS points events. So we asked Bill to fit them in the schedule so those racers can run for the season points. The IKF board doesn't look at numbers per say except on a national level. Region 7 and 11 still run Super Sportsman which keeps the numbers large enough that Super Sportsman will be a national class. Also it is always has been a Gold Cup Rule that if you show up with a kart that is a IKF National Class you will be able to run, however you may get put in with another class to keep the event on schedule.
As far as Super Sportsman as Regional and Gold Cup class. There was no numbers to support it in the last two years hence the class was dropped as only one or two people made an attempt to run at the Gold Cups.
As it sounds now there are a good number of Kt Super Sportman karts and racers out there on a club level. Are they willing to travel to at least 2 or more Gold Cup events for 2010? If there is commitment then bringem back in Gold Cup and have fun with everyone else. More the merrier. I might bring mine back out just to mix it up with them.
Now is the time for all of the KT drivers racers to decide what exhaust and clutch combos they want so everyone is on the same page and can organized to tell the club reps what they would like for the 2010 season at the rules meeting later this year.
