Derek,
Nobody ever said the plastic rear bumper had to be used, just a full width rear bumper that protects the rear tires. You can even build your own as long as it is sturdy, secure, and passes safety tech.
The bumper and helmet rules are safety items which are the most important items in racing.
If somebody can't afford the proper safety gear/equipment then they cannot afford to race...

Anyone thinking "Gold Cuppers" are rich haven't been in our pit. Some of us run in classes that need to run GC to step up the competition. TCKC doesn't have any sr World Formula. Hopefully with Nationals at TCKC we can get on the same page in tires this year. Safety has to come first. Yeah to the bumper! Lisa Moon

The only "Mad Cash" I've had is the ones that flew out of my wallet into my girlfriends purse ;D ;D Dont beat it to death, just buy or make a full sized bumper...They really arent too spendy if you plan for it over the off-season...

David and I make a kit that uses your existing bumper, four weld on tabs and two replaceable extensions for $60.00 installed. Kellen has been running one all year and I have one on my F200 chassis if anyone would like to see one. Ours does meet the IKF requirement.

For Rotax the rule states that the rear bumper must be cik approved starting next year, which means you can only run the plastic ones in rotax starting in 2010.

US GRAND NATIONALS - FULL COVERAGE REAR BUMPERS REQUIRED - CIK- SYSTEM OR OTHER MEETING CURRENT INDUSTRY STANDARDS- MUST AT ALL TIMES COVER INBOARD HALF OF REAR TIRES
CIK RULE 2.5.3 REAR WHEEL PROTECTION - IN ALL CONDITIONS, THE REAR PROTECTION MUST AT NO TIME PROTRUDE BEYOND THE EXTERNAL PLANE OF THE REAR WHEELS.

I ran the Righetti Ridolfi XTR14 plastic bumper on my B-Max this year. Helped the handling a lot. The rear bumper flexes a lot and loosened the rear - which I needed big big time. I also bought those swivel mounts so that the only way the bumper can bind is with fore and aft movement (unlikely). They are called, "Italkart 09 Style Bumper Bolt Kit (w/Teflon Bushings)". There must be a better term - not sure what it is though.
On Adams Kart I ran the KG TRIS Rear Bumper (Cadet) which can be adjusted width wise. Not sure how it affected his kart.
Both very simple to mount - even for me.
?'s send me an email.

Sorry....another post. Here is a photo link to the mounts described above. They mount into the frame as is typical and then a bolts tighten (expands) the rubber and the bumper mounts on the teflon which is tighten by another bolt. www.catalog.skmkarting.com/imgsub/acc_par_post5.jpg

Thank you David for copying a page from the 2009 rule book but since the topic is for 2010 this info is wrong. In 2010 only plastic rear protection is going to be allowed in rotax. If you have any questions about this contact Don the Rotax national technical adviser his number is on the rmax challenge web site.
