Racing; Competitive, fun and family juncture. I think a majority of people would agree that there is a difference in between being competitive and downright driving dirty and purposefully causing accidents. As a spectator on both sides of the fence what I witnessed this last race day was nothing short of a miserable display of poor sportsmanship both on and off the track. During the Sr. Super Sportsman heat race I watched a particular driver purposefully block, slow down and had another driver run up his back end not once but TWICE. The driver behind him who was faster than him only got over taken in turn one and when he tried to pass, each time he accelerated he was literally cut off and at other points was being pushed off the track. That same driver got the black flag warning even though you could tell the other driver in front of him was causing the issues in the first place. I do respect the race officials calls so I will just leave my bit there with that issue. Next in the main event the same driver that was blocking and causing problems in the heat race ran another kart ( same one that was behind him before) literally off the track (out of the race)and then almost cause another kart to roll over when he went over the top of him cause he veered sharply to run into the car next to him. He did get a black flag after that thankfully because I fear his driving could have caused more harm then anything at that point.
Moving on to when the driver came up off the track and onto the scales, I witness the poorest display of conduct I have ever seen from any one person at the track. His language, actions and overall conduct was crass and rude. Even more so troubling that he used that kind of language even after being asked to stop and in front of children standing right there. I am not sure how everything works at the track but I do know many of you if not all of you volunteer your time. Regardless none of you deserve to be yelled at , cursed at or otherwise disrespected.
I am not trying to start anything here, not trying to be the track police, this is not a debate or meant to be anything other than a statement that overall the track is a family oriented place. We all go out there to have a good time. Yes, it is competitive and we all race because we hope to win at some point but most of all we are all out there to have fun. If you are upset about a call, a situation or anything for that matter it should be brought up with a race official AFTER you have cooled down and taken a moment to step back from whatever situation it is.
We have in my opinion one of the best tracks around. I sincerely hope it stays that way and the events that took place at this last race are not a preliminary view of the conduct and sportsmanship to come at the track.
