I purchased a nice littler camera made for action sports. But damned if I can get a good video shot with this thing mounted anywhere on my kart. With no suspension, the vibration coming from the track, motor, etc.. just kills the image quality and in most cases is UN-watchable. I've tried about 6 different spots with different mounts..It's frusturating... I never asked why but was told helmet cams are prohibited. I assume the reasoning behind the decision is safety? I respect the boards decision, but I thought I'd do a little research. I've been UN-able to find an accident where the injury was the result of wearing a helmet cam. I understand we want to keep everyone safe. Maybe we can approve some of the cameras out there that are made for this specific thing(ContourHD and GoProHD), and outlaw cameras that aren't. This would eliminate someone sticking some stupid heavy, bulky, vhs on their head. Maybe we can allow a specific spot for the camera on the helmet even? Not directly on the top but maybe on the side? I just want to throw some ideas out there and maybe we can find a happy medium for us geeks that want to have a nice quality video. Thanks for reading, Keith Stone -always so smooth

I think it's an IKF rule.

Been doing some more reading.
That's correct. My understanding is the IKF won't allow a helmet cam(liability concern) unless the helmet manufactures certify the camera to be mounted. SFI said they won't DE-certify a helmet, but they wouldn't certify one either. Very Interesting..
Maybe our club we can sign some form of a waiver for our local club races only?

Problem is IKF insures the club so I dont think they cant go against thier rules and still be covered in the unlikely event that something happens because of it....not a board member and not positive but that is my two cents on y this wont happen....

I found a good solution. Elastic band, goggle mount, over the shoulder... works pretty darn good! Maybe there's no need for the helmet mount after all. Although I still would like to see it allowed.
