In talking with a few people this last week there was a suggestion that a "Rotax Sportsman class of some type be introduced. We were informed that there are fairly large number of the Rotax older competative packages both JR and Sr that are sitting in the garages that still have a good number of hours left on them but have been deem illegal due to the required updates by Rotax.
So we were asked to see if there would be some support thoughts etc if such a class would be offered.
This class would not be for any Rotax points or punches to the Rotax Grands.
The basis of the class would be that any of older versions of the Rotax engine package be allowed. So it would be an adult class Rotax JR or Senior package to be ran in one class. JR(barrel without power valve) package at 350 lbs. Senior (barrel with power valve)Package 390 lbs.
At present the Jr Max runs at 320 and the Rotax senior runs at 365. In looking at the times for the last year the JRs @320 and seniors @365 are within 0-2 tenths of each other. exception Chilliwack and JRs were slower by 3-5 tenths.
This maybe the class for the recreational driver that sill wants to compete at a local and regional level but doesn't have ability to update to the latest specs each season nor really cares to run at the Grand National level. It just might be the thing that is needed to get some of those still good engines back on the track without substantial costs to update. There are other ideas for the season more of the inputs will be posted.
