Hi. I recently purchased a 2001 Trackmagic CR125 Shifter kart and plan on racing at TCKC in 2012. I plan on also letting my younger sister race my Tonykart KT100 also in the Rookie Sportsman class. I have a few questions. What kind of airbox and pipe are they allowing in the Rookie class? Also what kind of fuel/oil mix are most people running? I am also wondering if a airbox is required for the Shifter class and also what fuel/oil mix are most people using? Any help would be nice. Thanks

Hi Tyson,
It's great to hear we have new racers coming out!
The Rookie Sportsman class just uses the basic RLV 2 cycle air box and the RLV SSX-V 4 hole can muffler.
We do not require an air box for the shifter class.
5-6oz of oil per gallon of gas is a good starting point.
Hope this helps, Mike

Thanks for the reply Mike. Does the can have four holes close together? Or 90° out? Also what brand and octane fuel are most running?

Hello Tyson,
Its always good to hear of a new shifter racer. We have a great group of guys in our class that are very willing to help each other out.
I have been running about a 1:1 ratio of 110 race fuel and 92 pump gas. On very hot days I've increased the race fuel content and on very cool days I've increased the pump gas content. I have been using Shaeffer's 2 cycle oil (it's a synthetic I believe) at a 32:1 fuel to oil ratio (mostly because it's easy, 4oz. of oil for every gallon of fuel).
While this has worked for me, ask others what works for them. If you have someone who will be working on your motor, ask them and trust their advice (since you trust them to work on it). Always read the manufacturers recommendations/instructions for the products you choose to use!
Looking forward to meeting you next year!

unless i was unaware of a rule change both 90deg and 4 holes in bottom cans are both legal. 90deg is just newer.

The RLV SSX-V 4 hole spaced 90* apart is the IKF specified muffler and the muffler we specify in our club rules for the rookie sportsman class.

I just re-read your initial post and had to laugh because I picked up a Trackmagic 125 shifter this past weekend! I'm really excited to get that thing on the track and start learning everything about it. Sounds like we'll be learning together! Britt

Britt,
That's cool I am glad I wont be the only newbie to shifters out there. What kind of motor does yours have in it? Have you found many places to get parts for them?

Looking forward to getting on the track for some practice. i will have to 'third' this.... i just picked up andy dressler's 125 shift and i know hardly anything. at least i know i wont be the only fool out there what are you guys using for online resources? if found srsengines and kartweb so far to be the most helpful overall. where are you ordering parts from? i know i need some jets and a water temp sensor to get started. any of you experienced shifter guys willing to help me out and show/explain how to tune one of these over a day? if so, shoot me a PM or a day you'll be at the track.

The ekartingnews.com shifter forum has some good info on it. I was over in Seattle this week and went to Kart O Rama and was very impressed with them. They have a pretty good online store as well.
